Exploring Columbus one block at a time…

In 2023, Block by Block – CBUS was conceived as a project that explored the story of a single Columbus block through the collaborative efforts of six photographers. Over the course of one week, the group documented a shared location from six distinct perspectives, transforming the project from an idea into a public exhibition.

Building on that foundation, Block by Block expanded in 2025 through support from the Greater Columbus Arts Council's Artists Projects grant. Over nine months, photographers from across Central Ohio documented nine Columbus neighborhoods, culminating in a community exhibition that celebrated the city's people, architecture, culture, and evolving identity.

In 2026, Block by Block returns with a new series of free, open-to-all community photo walks. Throughout the summer, photographers of every experience level are invited to explore a new group of Columbus neighborhoods together while creating images that reflect their own unique perspectives. Whether you're shooting with a DSLR, mirrorless camera, film camera, or smartphone, everyone is welcome.

Each featured neighborhood will include a scheduled community photo walk led by project organizer Aaron Sheldon, but participation isn't limited to those dates. If you're unable to attend a walk, you're encouraged to visit the neighborhood on your own schedule and create work throughout the project period.

Following each neighborhood exploration, participants will be invited to submit photographs for consideration in a collaborative exhibition at Wild Goose Creative in October. A cohort of community photographers will work together to curate and present the final exhibition, creating a collective portrait of Columbus through many different eyes.

Participation in all photo walks is free, and no registration is required. Join our mailing list below to receive announcements about upcoming walk dates, featured neighborhoods, exhibition opportunities, and project updates.
